Once in a while along comes a technology that makes long standing traditions suddenly old and dated. And for designers who choose to embrace these new technologies they become an opportunity to break the shackles and get an all new sense of freedom. Headlamp based lights which used either halogen lamps and HID lamps have been around for a while. But the arrival of LED headlights has been a game changer.

First there is the fact that LEDs score heavily against the existing technologies on all fronts. They consume less power, they are able to withstand vibrations better, they are able to light up quickly and they last very long. And then they produce light through multiple sources which frees the designers from the constraints of light bulb based light sources.

There have been challenges though in using LEDs for high amount of light functions such as headlights. Where relatively low amounts of light are required such as is the case for about LED tail lights ...
... they have already been enjoying great success for years. But where a high amount of light is required they have had to cope with problems such as heat dissipation. LED lights do not produce heat at the front as halogen lamp based lights do, but they do produce heat at the back end and if that is not dissipated efficiently the heat could damage the lights and the components in the area. But these challenges are being met with the full force of innovation and creativity as technology builds on its success and delivers solutions that are ever more refined. And the results are already beginning to show. The latest LED headlights deliver a great performance and are taking automotive lighting to a new and exciting plane.

Now headlights can have a set of LEDs mounted to light up the corners which is very useful when the car is making a turn. With the constraints of a light bulb out of the way one can expect many new innovative features to emerge. LED headlights are here to stay and are fast gaining in popularity.
