Dubai is planning to build the world's largest hotel as part of a $27 billion resort project unveiled to spearhead the Gulf emirate's drive to become a global tourism hub.

Promotional video of the Bawadi project showed a 10 km (6.2 miles) long resort strip that resembled Las Vegas without the casinos; its 31 hotels modelled on ancient Egyptian palaces, Hollywood, London's Houses of Parliament and even the moon.
Close by is also the tallest tower in the world, the Burj Dubai, the area sorrounding the Burj will have many hotels which have been carefully selected by the property major to reflect every singular facet of the development the centerpiece of which will be the Burj Dubai, the world's tallest building. The major hotels chains that will be represented in the most prestigious address on earth include three in The Old Town, two on the Burj Dubai Boulevard, The Dubai Mall hotel, a Burj Dubai Business Park hotel and the Burj Dubai Lake Hotel.

These will add over 2,000 rooms to Dubai's booming hotel industry which crossed a major milestone by playing host to a record 5.42 million guests at 371 hotels and ...
... hotel apartments, earning a total of AED6.2 billion in revenues in the year 2004.

According to latest reports, Dubai will need 45,000 additional rooms in the next five years to cope with the expected tourist boom and about 18,000 are in the pipeline up to 2008. There are 45 confirmed hospitality developments planned for this period.

Hotels in Dubai have always reported strong occupancy, especially during the peak summer seasons. However, the new emerging trend is that of an increased number of travelers from within the Gulf region.

Until recently, Gulf travelers constituted up to 25 % of the clientele in Dubai hotels, most of these having their annual summer breaks. However, this has gone up to 50% in the recent months.

Most hotels and hotel apartments report of occupancies that may lie in excess of 80 to 90 percent. One might say therefore how exhausted Dubai hotels could be finding it to continue as a business today, and how urgently they need to be given more three and four star hotels by the real estate firms.
