I do not know about you, but sometimes I cannot believe all the “crap” I have in my house. When my significant other and I first moved into our condominium we thought we had so much space. We moved from a 700 square foot, one bedroom/one bathroom apartment to our new place. Our condominium is 1350 square feet with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It seemed like heaven and I got tired walking from one room to the next. It was just so much empty space. We obviously did not have enough furniture to fill the place. As time went on we started accumulating furniture and stuff. I do not even remember buying most of the stuff I say filling out cabinets and closets. Before we knew it we were looking around and wondering where we going to fit our next furniture purchase. We both looked at each other and said, “Remember when this place was empty?!”

Throw junk away. Seriously, most people keep way, way, way too much stuff in their homes. Get rid of non-essential stuff. We did just that. We looked around decided to fill out dining room with all our unwanted and unused stuff. We spent a whole weekend filling the dining room. You ...
... can get your whole family involved. Some of the items we put in the dining room: Unused furniture (we had some side tables neither of us liked), Clothes we had not worn in 1 year (we saved seasonal clothes as long as we wore them the last time it was that season), Shoes we had not worn in 1 year, Books we had not looked at or referenced in the last year, Handbags I had not used in the last year, All expired medicine, vitamins, creams and ointments (we threw these away), Expired food in our kitchen cabinets (yes we had a can of soup that expired 3 years ago), Old towels and sheets, Unused hangers, Kitchen items I bought and never used, An old computer, A printer that no longer worked, A cabinet we were not using, Pet toys the pets did not use, Old CDs (after we uploaded them to our computers). Once we were able to look around and see empty space again we decided to stop. Then we walked into the dining room or actually peered from the doorway and I said, “We need to have a yard sale.” So that is what we did.

We made $618.25. We took the rest to the local Salvation Army donation drop off. What a relief! I could finally walk through our condo and feel it again as empty! We made a pact not to purchase anything for the house for at least one year.

We then used that money to pay off one of our low balance credit cards! What a relief one less bill.
