"A hamstring injury occurs when you tear small fibers that the muscle is made up of; you would certainly feel this happen. The common term for this is a hamstring "pull" or "strain"; no matter what you call it, it is guaranteed to be painful.

A hamstring injury can be somewhat complex because it may involve any of three separate muscles on the back of your leg. All of the muscles are used frequently in everyday life because they extend from knee to your hip. They enable you to bend your knee and extend your hip; walking can be extremely difficult if you do not have full use of them.

Even standing in one place can be awkward and uncomfortable if you have been unlucky enough to acquire a hamstring injury. It could prevent you from being able to go to work and from being of any assistance performing tasks for your family. Needless to say, it is in your best interest to make yourself aware of what can you do to avoid having to deal with these inconveniences altogether.

The bulk of hamstring wounds are blamed on a medical term that is referred to as "eccentric contraction". This happens when two forces ...
... yank your muscles in two different directions at the exact same time; obviously, they are not designed to do things of this nature. Just impacting the ground wrong when you are walking, running or jumping could cause this; it does not take much to end up riding the pine.

Anytime you partake in physical activities you are putting your hamstrings (and the rest of your body) in danger. In a football game, every time the pigskin is snapped you will probably come into contact with other players and muscle fibers will get stressed. On a basketball court, taking off at the start of a jump and landing on the way back down will both put you at risk.

Do not think that just because you do not enroll in violent sports that you will never require hamstring injury treatment. Tennis requires athletes to move tremendously quick and change the direction they are travelling in an instant; when the courts are slick it is even more of a challenge. Outfielders in baseball have been known to get injured as a result of standing still for long periods of time and then moving fast; their muscles cannot perform the same way they can when they have been warmed up."
