Believe it or not, Fall is a wonderful time to enhance the look of a home and improve its overall appeal. A few tips about landscaping Downingtown homes can give homeowners a new perspective of their property.

One reason why people choose to do landscaping improvements in the Fall is the better conditions. The heat is not as bad and humidity levels are lower than summer. In addition, many plants actually perform well when planted in the fall.

When discussing West Chester gardening ideas the fall is a perfect time to add nutrients to the lawn. Rye grasses, fescue grasses and blue grasses can all improve and become healthier thanks to fertilizers added in the fall. The fertilizing in the fall will act as a counter balance to the dry and hot summer.

The cooler fall temperatures is also good for grass in general. The mild temperatures reduces the amount of weeds and insects, which means the grass can feed off of nutrients in the soil without competition. The combination of good fertilizer and cooler weather will make grass strong and healthy, enabling to better ...

Although the grass will quit growing at the end of the fall, the root system for the grass will continue to spread out and develop. The root system is the backbone of a healthy lawn. In the fall and following winter carbohydrates are stored by the grass. These carbohydrates are then reduced at the beginning of the spring which helps the grass add a nice shade of green.

This same thriving environment that helps grass to grow is also good for other items like new trees and shrubs. There are also numerous flowers that can be added in order to provide more color. Here are a few examples of the flowers that can be planted in the fall.

Sedum – This perennial is a classic flower used in lots of yards. They usually have a pink bloom in the month of September and then have a brighter, stronger bloom in October.

Asters – This perennial grows really well in the fall sunshine. They are also quite easy to manage and are less appealing to deer.

Archillea – These flowers are also known as Yarrow. They will bloom beginning in the summer and continue to bloom into the fall. Butterflies really like them as well. These flowers are lovely as a dried flower arrangement and as cut flowers.

Anemone – A perennial well suited to the fall that grows in several colors. Grows best in slight shade but it can handle being flat out in the sun too.

Echinacea – A wonderful summer flower sometimes referred to as Coneflower, this plant has been bred in the past few years to offer a multitude of different colors. It will last through the summer and into fall with a beautiful look.

Whether you are looking to do a tiny bit of landscaping in Downingtown or tackle a full West Chester gardening project, fall will be a great time to improve the looks of the home.
