Since the inception of automobiles consistent efforts are being made to improve their performance. Manufacturers do it by introducing newer technologies or by using newly synthesized materials; customers also do their bit in this direction by installing some aftermarket products. Cold air intakes are a popular aftermarket product employed for this purpose. By installing them one can get more power from the engine for the same quantity of fuel. Combustion of the mixture of fuel and air generates power in the engine, and the resultant gases are allowed to escape. During this process the engine becomes hot and so does the air inside it. The hot air is lighter which means that inside the given volume of the engine there is less of air. For lack of air the combustion process will not be complete and the engine will generate less power. Cold air intake system brings in cold air from outside into the engine. Such air is dense which is beneficial for combustion. You can thus get more power from the engine for the same amount of fuel. Other reasons for cold air intake being so popular are that it does not cost much, it is easy to install, ...
... improves the sound, and also looks good.

Another device that also improves the efficiency of the engine is the cat back exhaust system. Resultant gases of the combustion process while escaping from the engine exert some back pressure on it. Such back pressure is not good for the combustion process and the engine is not able to generate the optimum power. Cat back exhaust system is a sort of funnel which allows the gases to exit with much reduced back pressure. Fresh air comes in and the engine generates more power. Cold air intake as well as cat back exhaust system both can individually improve the efficiency of the engine but their combination will be doubly beneficial.

There is choice in the materials used in making cold air intake systems and their styles. You can select cold air intake and cat back exhaust system of your choice from automobile stores or you can easily select and even buy them on internet.
