The Bariatric Diet: A Post-op Eating Plan That You Have To Have
"Anyone who has been considering undergoing the famous gastric bypass surgery as a way of helping them to lose weight will also need to go on a bariatric diet. The operation is not designed to completely change the way your body looks all by itself and the actual success of the operation and the weight loss goals that you set out to achieve depend greatly on the lifestyle choices that you must make post-operation, namely the things you eat.
This type of diet normally works in just a few simple steps that you must follow over the course of several weeks, and you have to make sure that you go through with the entire process if you don't want to risk forfeiting the success of your surgery. The first week of your new eating habits will actually consist of no eating at all, because your stomach is now too little and too sensitive to withstand the pressure of food swelling up within, making liquids the only acceptable things for you to ingest.
After that first week has gone by your stomach will be a good bit more adjusted and ready to take on some solid foods, but there is still the trouble of larger pieces of ...
... food not being able to pass properly and causing you to become very ill. If you would prefer not to be sick all the time or deal with the terrible cramping, you should spend that second week eating only solids that have been mashed up and pureed sufficiently.
After you get a couple weeks into your new post-op eating habits you will have a stomach that is more suited to eat like a normal person again, but if you don't take it easy and eat gentler foods, you could still end up not feeling too good. For the most part, you want to stick with softer foods such as fish, pasta, eggs, fruit purees, and tender cheeses, because ingesting anything that is hard to pass can cause a world of trouble for you and your brand new stomach.
You can actually revert back to you typical eating habits after a month of post-op dieting, but before you ever plan on doing so, you must make sure you complete the whole dietary cycle that will help you lose the weight you want and help you win back your body. Once you are done with your bariatric diet and back to eating normal foods again, you must remember to continue making smart and healthy choices, avoiding any foods or portions that will lead you back to your heavy days.
