Rss Feeds- The Three Letter Wonder
“Subscribe to this RSS feed” – We often come across this phrase on many websites. However, the other day, when one of my colleagues asked me what RSS feeds is all about, I managed to tell her with some ambiguity that it is a tool to stay informed about your preferred online news, weather, books and other products and services of interest. Not quite satisfied with my reply, I was keen on doing some more research on the subject. And while doing so, I found that RSS is an amazing technology that can take the web owner’s business to the next level!
Let me share with you my thoughts on RSS feeds.
For those who are not acquainted to RSS feed, let me inform you that the three letter acronym for “Really Simple Syndication” is a syndicated news feed in an XML set-up. To put it simply, it allows you to read different websites and blogs through your feed reader upon subscription. You can subscribe through an “information aggregator”. From my reading, I understood that accessing an RSS feed is more or less like podcasting, in that you simply subscribe to a feed. This means that RSS feed will allow you to get ...
... real time information each time a new content is posted on your website. And based on your topic of interest, you will automatically receive the update from the website to your desktop.
Not many people know that RSS feeds are also a great communication tools that can help you boost your site traffic i.e in local seo services. One of the most worthwhile online marketing and promotion techniques, when properly used, the feeds can generate significant revenues. For this to happen, RSS feeds should contain compelling content with relevant and catchy titles.
RSS feeds work both ways. You not only get updates from other blogs and websites upon subscription. You can also have links to your content on other blogs and websites. Blogs are a great way to boost this functionality. If you have a blog, you should also have an RSS feed for it. This link is usually displayed on your website. (Remember the orange RSS icon?). On a static site, you can use the RSS feed by clicking on the link: http://www.rssfeedssubmit.com/rss-generator/.
Just like link and article directories, you come across RSS directories where you can submit your RSS feeds. Those directories display and distribute your feeds on other sites. The best part is, every time you add an article (or content) to your site, the blog RSS feeds automatically get updated. This means, you get back links immediately from the RSS directories without any hassle and it [lays a great role in local seo services.
All said and done, just ensure that your website supports RSS feeds. And, if you still haven’t used RSS feeds in your business, you might as well give it a try. The three letter word can work wonder for your site.
