For many years now we've been hearing that smoking is bad for your health. However there are still many people who continue to smoke over a pack a day. Some of this may go back to the roots of smoking.

Smoking is one of the oldest habits known to mankind and have been around for thousands of years. However tobacco smoke in the Western Hemisphere can be traced back to the 1500s when explorers find Native Americans smoking tobacco leaves in pipes. It only took a little bit of trading for Europeans to get hooked. Seeing an opportune to make some profits, traders quickly added tobacco to the items they would routinely trade.

Currently cigarette smoking is most common form of smoking. While pipes are still around, only a small percentage of the population smoke them on a regular basis. To put it in perspective there are 430 billion cigarettes consumed by Americans every years. Even though so many Americans are aware of the dangers of smoking, many people believe that this number is going to increase in the coming years.

One of these treatments is a new drug that is helps people handle their addiction to nicotine. This drug is called Nicorette and is a form of Nicotine Replacement Therapy that comes in many forms. Among these are gum, patches and nasal sprays. The idea is to give your body just enough nicotine to fulfill your cravings, while keeping your away from all the harmful chemicals that are contained in cigarette smoke. This way you'll slowly be able reduce the your nicotine intake until you won't need it at all. If you truly want to quite, you should give Nicorette a try. It might be the one treatment that works for you.
