Grape Seed Extract Offers Many Benefits

Harvested from red grapes at their peak ripeness, grape seed extract is considered as one of the best supplements in the world. It has been used throughout Europe to prevent and treat a variety of health conditions.
The ancient Greeks used grapes medicinally, and elsewhere in Europe practitioners of natural medicine believed sweet grapes could treat conditions such as liver disease, eye infections and even cancer. More recently, scientists have suggested red wine consumption may be why the French have a low rate of heart disease despite their high-fat diet. The apparent health benefits may be due to the flavonoids in red wine, which are also present in grape seed extract, note experts from Iowa State University.
Grape seed extract is shown to be very helpful in the treatment of high blood pressure or hypertension because it contains antioxidants. These antioxidants provide protection against damage. It’s important to ensure the protection of blood vessels because any damage to them will cause high blood pressure. Grape seed extract showed promising results in reducing the blood pressure, as shown in animal studies. ...
... Its effects on humans have yet to be clarified.
The National Library of Medicine says that grape seed extract may also be beneficial to those with certain types of heart problems such as high cholesterol and poor blood circulation. A study of how grape seed extract works to break down fat in the blood stream showed that patients taking 75 milligrams twice a day for two weeks had lower levels of "bad" cholesterol versus those who took a placebo.
Grape seed extract also helps maintain firm, young-looking skin. It is known that antioxidants are the most important nutrients for the skin. Grape seed extract is considered an anti-aging wonder thanks to its powerful antioxidant properties. Besides, grape seed extract protects collagen and elastin in the skin. The combination of collagen and elastin gives skin its smoothness and elasticity. Grape seed extract protects these important substances from free radical attack and enzymes that would otherwise degrade them.
Studies have found that grape seed extracts may prevent the growth of breast, stomach, colon, prostate, and lung cancer cells in test tubes. However, there is no clear evidence yet whether it works in humans. Antioxidants, such as those found in grape seed extract, are thought to reduce the risk of developing cancer.
In other studies, grape seed extract may also lessen the effect of cellulite and may help to protect eye health. The body can benefit in many other ways from using grape seed extract. It can be used to prevent health problems which include varicose veins, edema, and arthritis. Grape seed extract also acts as natural anti-histamine, moderating allergic responses by reducing histamine production and boosting the immune system.
