Yantras are generally referred to as visual instruments used mainly for concentrating and meditating. Different concentric figures like circles, squares, triangles and other floral patterns constitute a geometrical pattern which is represented by the Yantras. Each of these figures signifies different meanings. Only after the purification and energizing of the Yantras are done they can be put to use. Generally used for reducing the malefic effects of the planets, they can also be used to give a boost to the beneficial effects of the planets. The classification of the Yantras is done on the basis of different specifications. Some of the specifications based on which the categorization is done are as follows:

Asana Yantra

These Yantras are used during meditation. The name is so given because they are placed under mats or Asanas by individuals while meditating. The Asana Yantra also finds its use in temples, in the base of houses and buildings.

Puja Yantra

Puja Yantra are placed in temples or at homes during which puja is performed. As Yantras represent different planets as well as religious deities, the Puja items can be used either to worship these planets or the deities.

Sharir Yantra

It is believed that Kundalini, a coil form in our body can be awakened to attain ultimate spiritual power. This can be done through the seven chakras which are present in our body. Each chakra has a separate Yantra and is used as per the needs of the individuals. They are called Sharir Yantra because they have an effect on particular parts of the body.

Mandala Yantra

This Yantra is formed by the sages or the Sadhakas who sit in such a position so as to form a shape of the Yantra. This ritual is generally performed by nine people. Four directions are covered by four persons and one person sits in the center. Remaining four persons are involved in the recitation of the mantras.

Darshan Yantra

The worshipper of this Yantra or someone who gets a darshan or a glimpse of this Yantra is said to get the blessings of it. The place where these Yantras are put are also blessed and purified. Such Yantras are placed in temples of India like temple of Shrinath Dwara where Sudarshan Yantra is placed and the temple of Jagannath Puri where the Ishairon Yantra is placed.

Dharan Yantra

Different reasons are there for which these Yantras are worn by individuals on the body.

Chhatar Yantra

These Yantras find their place in pockets or under turbans or hats but not worn directly by the individuals.
