Hydrocephalus means, ‘Water on the Brain’. It is an excessive accumulation of fluid in the head. And, this causes swelling in the head. It is to be noted that the fluid is called Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF). It provides the much-needed protection to our delicate brain and spinal cord tissues from injuries. Everyday our body produces a certain amount of this fluid and then, absorbs the same as well. However, when this pattern breaks and causes excessive build-up of CSF, the condition is termed as Hydrocephalus. Thank God, there are competent Neurosurgeons in Delhi and therefore, one shouldn’t worry a bit. Just choose one well-equipped hospital for the treatment and develop a positive attitude. Things will definitely get better.

Causes behind the Disease

Hydrocephalus may be caused by interference with normal flow due to an obstruction or blockage in the CSF fluid pathways

Another cause may be over production of CSF

It may also be under absorption of CSF into the bloodstream

However, ...
... remember that in most cases the circumstances contributing to Hydrocephalus are beyond control.

Diagnosis

Diagnostic tools that Neurosurgeons in Delhi use include Ultrasound, CT Scan (Computerised Tomography), MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), and CSF Flow Studies. There may be other tests as well.

Treatment and Neurosurgeons in Delhi

The disease is usually treated by a surgery wherein the docs insert a shunt system and diverts the flow of CSF to another area of the patients’ body. It is to be noted that a Shunt system consists of a Shunt, a Catheter, and a Valve. Also, remember that a Shunt may help control Hydrocephalus, but is not a cure for this disease. The procedure is performed under sterile conditions using general anesthesia. The surgeon makes an incision on the scalp and then, a hole in the skull. This is done to place the ventricular catheter in the ventricles.

Docs take utmost care while treating the patient. And equipped with the latest technology equipment, they are in a far, far better position to help the patient control the disease. So, one should not worry.

Take your time. Compare options you have. And choose the hospital which has a sound track-record in treating Neurological diseases.
