Golf Course Living: Coto De Caza Vs. Marbella

If you are looking for a luxury golf community in South Orange County, chances are you may find yourself in Coto de Caza or Marbella. Both are fabulous communities, and both offer very different lifestyles. I have shown buyers properties in both communities and most prefer one over the other for their specific lifestyles. So which one is for you?
Well let me first get this out of the way – I live in Marbella and love it. I also know people who live in Coto de Caza who love it! With that said let’s explore the two communities.

Coto De Caza:

“Coto” is a planned and gated community of about 4,000 homes, and is considered to be one of Orange County’s oldest and most luxurious golf and equestrian communities. Lovely wide tree lined streets with white fences and equestrian trails set the stage for this magical setting. Currently there are two 18-hole golf courses, ten tennis courts, and two clubhouses. ... directly on the golf course but most not. The architecture blends traditional and Mediterranean styles. Coto de Caza is twenty minutes from the Interstate 5 freeway and enjoys moderate coastal weather most of the year but summer days can really heat up – perfect with a pool.

Marbella:

Marbella is a planned and gated community of about 250 homes and 100 golf villas – it is also considered to be one of Orange County’s most luxurious golf communities. Marbella is located in the quaint and historic town of San Juan Capistrano – well known for its Mission, equestrian and western charm. The neighborhood rests in a tranquil valley and the predominantly custom homes and “villas” enjoy mountain views and a lucky few with distant ocean views. Most of the Mediterranean style homes line the fairways of the single 18-hole golf course designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf. There are also six tennis courts, a fitness center, and luxurious clubhouse. Note that like Coto, membership is optional for residents. Marbella is only a few minutes from the Interstate 5 freeway and enjoys moderate coastal weather year round.
