Here’s a run down on the movies of 2011 that you mustn’t miss:
Source Code
2011 was a good year for thrillers, and Source Code was one of the most exciting. Jake Gyllenhall steps into Tom Cruise’s shoes as the futuristic sci-fi king.
127 Hours
So we need to rewind right back to the beginning of thr year for this one, but boy was it a goody. Surprisingly so, actually, as most of the action ...
... consisted of our lead character being wedged between two rocks. James Franco does a really great job at making this one believable and not too ‘Hollywood’. Just prepare yourself for a good few ‘cringe’ moments.
The Hangover Part 2
The Hangover Part 2 manages to achieve the impossible in being a sequel that is as good, if not better, than the original. If you fancy having your funny bone tickled then get this out on DVD now!
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Probably the most anticipated film of recent years, the grand finale of the Harry Potters will have Potter fans weeping into their popcorn. The cinema release saw queues winding out of the local multiplex, and when the DVD is released it will be a must buy for anyone swept up in the drama of Harry’s life.
The Black Swan
Natalie Portman gives the performance of her career in this modern day classic. This psychological thriller will enthral from beginning to end, not least because of the amazing choreography and beautiful costumes.
The Kings Speech
Good old Colin Firth gives a wonderful performance in this thoroughly British affair about a King crippled by his stammer. The wonderful and wacky Helena Boham Carter supports beautifully.
Limitless
Bradley Cooper gives a fantastic performance in this intriguing and exciting movie about the potential of the brain. Truly brilliant, with some fantastic directorial touches, the more I thought about this one, the more I liked it.
Unknown
Liam Neeson gives a great follow up performance to his previous thriller hit Taken with Unknown. A classic twisty turny thriller that doesn’t disappoint.
The Inbetweeners Movie
Fans of the TV series will love this movie which follows Simon, Will, Jay and Neil on their adventures to Malia. Everyone who’s been on a teenage holiday abroad will relate to the shenanigans they get up to in this laugh out loud comedy farce.
Cars 2
The biggy for little ones in 2011 was Cars 2. This time it was Mater's turn to steal the show which made for more laugh out loud moments than the original. Cars 2 also has more characters and more fun cars, which is sure to thrill young fans of all things four wheeled.
Dairy of a Wimpy Kid – Roderick Rules
The second Wimpy Kid film did a great job living up to the first one, and provided lots of laughs for kids of all ages. A hidden gem for ages 5 to 105.
Transformers 3
Spectacular action scenes are what the Transformers franchise is all about, and Transformers 3 has them in abundance. So what if the story line and the acting skills are a bit thin, you get to see giant robots battle it out on the big screen. Win!
And still to come…
The Hobbit
So far, this Lord of the Rings prequel has a release date for 31st December 2011, just catching the tail end of this year. I can see many people scrapping the traditional new years eve pub and club shenanigans for a quiet evening at the cinema.
Whether you’re a fantasy, comedy, horror or thriller film fan, make sure that you have the best possible viewing experience at home with a top of the range DVD player, TV or home cinema system from Currys.co.uk.
