Emergency lights need to be reliable and portable. There are plenty of emergency light varieties that are used by different types of emergency vehicles including patrol cars, cop vans, ambulances, fire engines and heavy equipment and construction vehicles. Considering various parameters, the use of light emitting diodes is ideal for a car emergency light. This is because these lights provide a lot of benefits which are not usually provided by other light sources, whether it is incandescent lights, halogen lights or any other light sources. One of the greatest benefits of LED lights is their long life which is virtually unmatched across any other light source. High quality LEDs can last for as long as 100,000 hours which is a very long time compared to what most other light sources provide.

Another reason why LEDs should be used in car emergency light is their very high energy efficiency. LEDs provide the same luminosity as CFLs, incandescent lights or other options but with far less wattage. This is also the reason why emergency lights using LEDs have arrays of 1 – 5 W LEDs lined up for maximum brightness. ...
... With lower wattage, the luminosity is not compromised, but the voltage power supply can be much lower. A simple 12V DC power supply would often suffice for LED emergency light circuits. Since it is possible to power these LEDs with such a small power supply and since the energy efficiency of these lights are so high, they can be used for long hours in emergency situations, without really having to carry extra baggage in the form of backup power supplies. Their long life combined with low energy consumption, makes LED lights extremely energy efficient.

Another reason why LEDs should be used in car emergency light is because of the flexibility they provide as compared to other forms of lighting. For example colored filters can be used with LEDs to get colorful beams which make the flashing of the lights even more effective. Similarly, lenses can be used to alter the beam angle, sometimes making them narrow and focused and sometimes going for wide angle beams for better coverage. Reflectors can also be used with smaller LEDs to collect all the directional beams from LEDs and then throw the light in one direction for bright coverage. Thus, LEDs can save energy without really compromising on the quality of the light.

One of the most important reasons why LEDs should be used in a car emergency light is their versatility. They can be easily controlled with the help of an embedded chip. LED modules can be easily configured with dozens of 1W LEDs depending upon how much brightness is required. Multiple LED modules can be synced with each other, to flash in the same phase. Similarly, it is quite possible to get high rate of flashes with LEDs as well as individually control different LED modules. Lastly, the number of LEDs can be easily varied according to the requirements. The heat production is also low with LEDs.
