"Your teen has finally obtained his or her driver's license and they're ready to get on the road. This accomplishment is very exciting, but if they get a ticket or are involved in an accident, a Texas defensive driving class will be in their future. As a parent, you want your teen to be safe, wise, and wise about the decisions they make on the roadway, but sometimes there are things out of your control.

With twenty-four hours during a day, it will be implausible to watch your teen's every move. If you're wrapped up inside their every move, you're not living your life and doing what you need to do. You also can't influence their decision-making process when they're lured by the timeless culprit of peer pressure. So what are you able to do when it comes to helping your teen be a responsible driver?

It will all boil down to whether or not you practice what you preach with regards to safe driving. When you drive with a cool head and don't let other drives rouse you into arguments over trivial things (e.g. fighting over a parking space), your teen will take notice. You will also need to not drink or abuse ...
... other illicit substances before driving.

Apart from these major things, you also want to keep your focus on the road. Resist the urge to answer your cell phone, and don't send a text while you're on the roadway. If a phone call is that important, you can pull over to the side of the roadway to take the call and be safe. Unfortunately, many teens do this without weighing the consequences.

We're just making these points because teens are also looking at everything you do. Although they may listen to a lesser extent, your behavior is truly what grabs their attention. Now that you're teen is a licensed driver, the pressure from these concerns will begin to weigh on you. Before they're ""off to the races"", remind them that a citation may require that they attend a Texas defensive driving course, but negligent behavior can strip them of their driving privilege.

We sincerely hope that the negative consequences will not be an issue for your teen. As they practice, keeping these concerns in the front of their mind will make them a safer driver."
