Do you enjoy sun bath at beach, but are afraid of skin cancer? If you answer is “yes”, you may try gape seed extract. Grape seed extract contains several powerful antioxidants, so it can protect the body from sun damage.

Whether red, green or purple, grapes are an antioxidant-rich fruit containing numerous skin and health-enhancing components, such as vitamin E, flavonoids, linoleic acid and oligomeric proanthocyanidins, or OPCs. These compounds are highly concentrated in the grape's seeds, skin, stems and leaves as well as in grape juice and wine.

OPCs have "cosmetic" value. They protect collagen and elastin, which are an important part of the makeup of skin. It is the interlacing of collagen and elastin that gives skin its strength, elasticity, and smoothness. When these two substances are damaged, the skin loses elasticity— the result can be wrinkles. OPCs help restore damaged collagen and elastin and protect them against further damage. You could say that OPCs are an oral cosmetic to keep skin healthy.

Resveratrol is another antioxidant found in grapes and wine. Some research suggests it shields ...
... against skin cancer. According to one study, resveratrol defends skin cells from skin cancer following exposure to UVB rays by lowering survivin (which controls cell division), reports Science Daily.

Contains chemical constituents such as proanthocyanidins, polyphenols, flavonoids, and anthocyanins, all of these are very potent antioxidants that help for diminish the sun’s damaging effects and reduce free-radical damage. Grape seed extract has also been shown to have wound-healing properties.

A 2002 study, conducted at the Laboratory of Molecular Medicine, in Columbus OH, showed increased wound healing in mice that received grape seed extract. Although successful use in humans is unproven, researchers believe grape seed extract may reduce the natural oxidation in a wound, promoting quicker healing. See a doctor before using grape seed extract therapy for deep or chronic wounds.

The extract seemed to aid wound healing in two ways: It helped the body make more of a compound used to regenerate damaged blood vessels, and it also increased the amount of free radicals in the wound site. Free radicals help clear potentially pathogenic bacteria from a wound.

Besides, grape seed extract has specific properties that help to reduce inflammation of the skin. It has also shown to help strengthen the capillary walls and more skin care products are adding grape seed extract due to these positive effects on the skin.

Grape seed extract has also been found to treat chloasma, and it is a natural, safe alternative. A study published in the November 2004 issue of "Phytotherapy Research" showed that after six months of treatment with oral grape seed extract, chloasma significantly improved.
