Know More About Herpes
Herpes is a serious disease that has symptoms of inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes. It is caused by a virus of herpes. This virus may cause oral herpes that is manifested by sores and fever blisters and genital herpes manifested by sores in genital area of the body. There are two types of the virus of herpes the first one is called Herpes Simplex Type One and another is called Herpes Simplex Type Two or HSV-1 and HSV-2 relatively. Both viruses can be easily found in the blood test and studied under the microscope. The disease affects genital area or moth depending on the type of the virus. HSV-1 is responsible for oral blisters or any other blisters that develop above the waist and HSV-2 is responsible for blisters below the waist, usually in the genital area. The worst thing about this viral disease is that the immune system of the person affected with herpes weakens seriously so he becomes vulnerable to other diseases and ailments.
Symptoms
The symptoms of this ailment become visible within 2-20 days after an individual come in contact with the virus. The extent of the symptoms may vary as it depends ...
... on the immune system of an individual. Development of the sores and lesions is very common. Once the virus gets into the skin it starts multiplying. The development of the bump and the reddening of the skin is the first symptom. Swollen glands, fever, muscle ache and headache are few common symptoms. A burning sensation may be felt by the person as the virus even affects the urethra.
Treatment
Vaccination is available and is effective if it is taken at the age of 3-5 years. The vaccine is more effective to those who are suffering from this disease for the first time. Vaccine will not yield any fruitful results for people who once had this disease. There are no sure shot drugs which are bound to cure this ailment. But there are certain drugs which are there to reduce the frequency and the duration of the outbreak of this disease. A patient should try and keep the infected part clean as it improves with the natural healing process. An individual should take warm showers as it helps in better curing.
Proper and nutritious diet as well as regular exercise helps in the strengthening of the immune system as it helps the body to fight the virus and maintain the healthy body. Two therapies are there to curb this deadly disease: first is an antiviral therapy and the other is immunotherapy. The aim of the antiviral therapy is to discover the drugs which have the power to distinguish between the infected cells and the normal cells. By this therapy only the infected cells would be destroyed while the normal cells would be preserved. Antiviral agents act like lethal for the viruses but should be non-toxic for the body. Immunotherapy is a newly developed concept and deals with improving the immune system of the body. Some substances have the power to stimulate the white blood cells which provide strength to the immune system. Amino Acid Lysine aids in the treatment of the herpes as well.
