As it is, MBA education is one of the most demanded subjects that are pursued by the students in present scenario. Much of it is because of the need for management skills in different job aspects and also because various companies are demanding this particular qualification in their recruits.

To get that extra edge and be more eligible for the jobs, students are going for MBA admissions in large numbers. Through various entrance exams, they are getting into colleges which are spread across the country. Due to the stiff competition, students take the MBA admissions in different colleges depending on their ranks in the particular entrance exam.

But the aim of every entrant is to equip themselves with the knowledge of MBA subjects which might be same or different depending on the college. At least, the basic MBA subjects or specialisations are found in every college. These include the subjects of human resources, finance, marketing & sales.

Further subjects in these individual courses are also there some of which are exclusive for the particular stream while few others like principles of management, marketing ...
... management, finance and accounting, etc are common to all streams.

There are some other MBA subjects, which are found in some institutes and are becoming more and more common as these subjects are more oriented towards particular industries. Streams like hospital management, hotel management, environmental management, international business, retail management, supply chain management, and many more are being started in various management institutions across the country, which gives management knowledge to the professionals of a particular industry.

Gradually, these kinds of subjects are coming into demand by the students as they wish to be prepared for the industry which they have been targeting. After taking the MBA admissions, now students are to get the knowledge of MBA syllabus as they need to work according to it to pass through the exams that would be conducted.

Depending on the specialisations, the MBA syllabus is programmed. But it also consists of a general idea of the management skills in every stream. This means that the first semester course in the MBA syllabus of all the specialisations is almost the same. During the first semester, therefore students have to go through these subjects, whichever stream they might have selected during the MBA admissions.

Then comes the question of selecting the electives which would depend on the specialisation that one chooses. In some colleges, the MBA syllabus is made in such a manner that it consists of compulsory subjects in each semester and a few optional subjects, which students can select depending on their interests. A similar course pattern is followed for the MBA admissions in IGNOU or in other distance education learning programs, with a few differences as designed by the particular university.

Management education is meant to provide the knowledge to the students to be better managers. And this is the target of every course and every stream. Hence, except for some specific differences, one cannot put fingers on the differences. Ultimately what would count for the people is to get better marks and gain as much knowledge as possible to utilise it in their jobs for personal as well as the organisations’ benefit.
