Booking A Holiday, Tour Or Vacation In Mauritius
In my capacity as the UK Director of Operations for One World Tours Limited, I am often asked about the destinations I have been to. I try to give a good opinion on those places and offer some helpful advice. Here then, are my top suggestions for sites to take in during your holiday in Mauritius.
If it is paradise that you are hoping to experience then you need go no further than Mauritius. This volcanic island is located in the Indian Ocean in the middle of nowhere. With its warm climate, which rarely drops below 62° F at night this makes for an ideal break from normality for the holiday seekers and a wonderful place to spend your honeymoon.
The Sheer beauty of its white sandy beaches, the crystal clear waters lapping gently at the shore, luscious foliage and mountain ranges make Mauritius a remarkable island that you have to visit at least once in your lifetime. With the warmest months of the year in being January and February, the only problem that could occur is a cyclone.
The tropical cyclone would bring very strong winds, very high waves and lashings of rain too.
Pereybere public beach is ...
... a beautiful beach, which is not only for its pure deep clear waters but also because of its shopping facilities, restaurants and pubs.
Situated in the northern region of the island, Pereybere is on the coastal road between Grand Baie and Cap Maljeureux.
With the 6 diving sites along the Grand Bay and Pereybere you will have the perfect opportunity to experience the stunning array of coloured fish and coral reefs.
Maheswarnath is the biggest Hindu Temple in Mauritius and it can be found in Triolet, the longest village on the island. The temple was originally built to honour the Hindu gods known as Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Krishna, Muruga and Ganesha.
The Pamplemousses garden was created by the former French Governor Francois Mahe de Labourdonnais. Thanks to him deciding to grow a huge variety of trees and plants and he has created a pleasant break for those travelling to or from Port Louis. Only a small portion of the entire garden that he created is left but it is still worth the look as the gigantic lily pads are an experience in themselves.
The crocodile park is situated on the valley of an old vanilla farm which can be compared to a tropical rainforest. An Australian zoologist and his wife created the park with the intention of breeding the crocodiles. You will understand why they chose this particular spot when you see the fresh water brooks the beautiful local flowers and the tropical palm trees.
All of the crocodiles at the Park are kept in protected areas and are separated by age. There are more than just crocodiles at this park however and the visitor will get to see
monkeys, deer, giant tortoises, rabbits, bats, wild pigs and a giant Telfair Skink.
If you travel southwest in Mauritius you will find the wonderful village of Chamarel. Chamarel is home to two natural wonders, the stunningly beautiful Chamarel Falls and the coloured earths. The earths are particularly unusual as they are created by volcanic rocks that cooled at different temperatures which in turn have encouraged the earths form mind boggling patterns of colour in the exposed hillsides.
If you were to mix these different coloured earths together, they will eventually settle into separate layers once again, amazing!
The Black River Gorges area of Mauritius continues the islands famous natural beauty and is well known for being a bird watchers' paradise because of the thousands of bird species inhabiting the highlands of the national park.
Birdlife is not all that draws the adventurer to the park which also offers some amazing waterfalls and clear pools as it for its wildlife.
The Black River Gorges National Park also offers splendid views of the southern shores of Mauritius.
Because of the many tourists over a long period of time visiting this stunning wildlife park the macaque monkeys have lost all fear of humans which will give the visitor another experience altogether as they will calmly pose for photographs and beg for food.
There is much, much more to do and see in Mauritius far more than I have room to write about here such as the Ganga Talao which is home to the biggest annual pilgrimage of Hindus outside of India who descend upon the lake, some coming from as far away as South Africa, to give offerings to Shiva. I hope that you know have a small insight into what this amazing country has to offer.
