The child's world is full of endless imagination, but sometimes children are often unable to distinguish between reality and imagination, so lies are produced. Some of the lies are made up by children to escape the blame, and some lies may just be imagined by them. If your child is lying, what can you do?

If one day your child lied to you, what would you do? “Parenting” magazine of the United States provide a variety of detailed and effective solutions for the parents.

1-3 years old

Children's first lie is likely to appear at this stage. They mainly will deny doing something, or lie in order to get something.

Solution: Parents should neither blame them nor force children admit having lied. Instead, parents should enlighten them with kindness.

3-5 years old

Children at this stage often take the imagined things as reality of things as reality. These fabricated lies are more like a simple performance or their own wishful thinking. He may say he knows a TV star, or strange experiences with some cartoon characters.

Solution: If the child said something that you think far-fetched, ...
... do not directly break his imagination. You can even down to his thinking, and construct a beautiful scene with him together.

5-12 years old

At this stage, the children sometimes will lie because of considering the feelings of others or being unwilling to hurt others, which means that children have the initial social consciousness. Besides, children will lie because they cannot reach some kind of ability, and do not want to make parents disappointed or to be punished.

Solution: If the child is lying, do not punish them by not allowing them to watch TV or locking children into house. Parents should find out the reason of children’s lie, and help them face and overcome difficulties.

12-18 years old

Children grow up gradually and they may no longer be willing to share the details in life with their parents. If you get to the bottom, they will make up some lies to be perfunctory. This is a sign of growth.

Solution: Parents should give their children the space of freedom, but should grasp the scale as well. For example, when children often lie because of homework, parents should express their dissatisfaction. Some children will lie under pressure, so parents should also tell them that it cannot be a reason for lying while they are helping children to resolve. Honesty is very important for a person.
