So you took the plunge and spent the money on that latest style of Versace or Gucci purse. Well, good for you! You will be turning heads all season and probably beyond (depending on where you live of course), but the very last thing that you want is to have that beautiful work of art ruined through lack of proper care. You've got a purse for the ages there, but the only way to make sure that its beauty lasts is through careful preservation. Here are some tips to make sure your leather purse stays fabulous for as long as possible.

The most important thing to do in order to ensure the long life and fabulous appearance of your leather purse is to stay out of situations where it may come to harm. Keep it out of reach of children, don't take it into the movie theater with you, and always make sure it is out of the way when you go out to dine.

Don't overload the purse. This will cause extra stress on the straps, and you don't want them detaching or fraying earlier than they should.

Spray your leather purse with leather protector or Scotchguard as soon as you get it. Don't worry about how expensive the spray is; ...
... in fact the pricier the better. After all, the purse is worth a lot more!

Clean your purse regularly. No matter how careful you are, you will find that dirt, change, and other objects end up loose in your purse. These are potentially abrasive and can rub holes in the lining and even in the sides, so every week or so make sure you empty your purse out and check to make sure everything's contained inside. Use leather cleaner to get any stains, etc., out right away!

No matter which design you selected for your purse, you do want to make sure that it lasts the test of time. We really can't stress enough that prevention is the most important form of preservation; everything else you do can be erased with just one moment by carelessly storing your leather purse in a vulnerable spot, or taking it out into inclement weather.
