Rush to E-business activities, enormous growth in internet and development of data-intensive applications has triggered the enterprise storage demands.

Data managers are now keener to adopt new storage solutions which assure investment protection, higher storage performance, broader media compatibility and improved scalability.

Sony leveraged its vast media storage experience and technical excellence to introduce new advanced intelligent tape (AIT) format that has become an industry leading tape standard for small & mid-range businesses, workgroups, branch offices and server environments. Sony AIT-5 tape is the ultimate data storage technology which not only fulfills the current backup needs of enterprise server customers, but also provides scalability for future growth.

Sony has developed fifth generation AIT-5 tape drive, part number AIT-i1040SLE, which offers more than 1 TB media capacity and 62 MB/sec data rate in compressed mode. Most attractive attribute of Sony AIT-5 drive is its smaller size that allows it to be easily inserted into 3.5 inch drive bay. On the other hand, the competing tape ...
... drives usually fit in a 5.25 inch slot. Sony has not only introduced smaller sized AIT-5 drives, but has also ensured smaller size for its AIT-5 tape cartridges in comparison to the other backup tapes of equivalent capacity. Therefore Sony AIT-5 drive and cartridges are most space efficient, and are ideal for rack mount servers. Sony AIT-5 drive offer more benefits as the previous AIT generations including AIT-4, AIT-3Ex and AIT-3 tapes are backward compatible. Both data read/record functions can be performed with absolute data accuracy and cost efficiency.

400GB native and 1.04 TB compressed information can reside on a single Sony AIT5 tape. 2.6:1 compression ratio is also an important factor that makes AIT-5 technology more advantageous and cost efficient than other media formats. For robust data security & regulatory compliance, WORM technology has been incorporated in AIT-5 tape generation products. WORM (write-once read-many) mechanism blocks malicious data access and puts a stop to over-writes and accidental data deletions.

Sony has designed new MR (magneto resistive) head that features in all Sony AIT5 tape drives. Robust MR head along with the dynamic data tracking functionality helps to minimize the effect of recording distortion and enhance the operating efficiency.

With reliable Sony AIT-5 technology, your business data will be more secured because AIT5 drive offers unbeatable MTBF of 400,000 hours. While the rival tape drives offer an average MTBF of 250,000 hours.

Listed below are the compatible AIT backup tapes:

Sony AIT 5 tape
SDX5-400C

Sony AIT5 WORM-enabled tape
SDX5-400W

Sony AIT3 storage tapes
SDX3-100W, SDX3-100C

Sony AIT-3Ex tape
SDX3X150CWW

Sony AIT 4 data tapes
SDX4-200C, SDX4200CWW

Sony AIT5 tape devices address the requirements of stiff data laws and provide long term archival at lowest cost per gigabyte. Thanks to the robust drive architecture, head-clogging has been significantly reduced; therefore less cleaning will be required. SDX5-CL is a Sony-branded AIT cleaning cartridge, which works excellently with all Sony AIT5 drives.

Sony AIT-5 media and drives are rigorously engineered to ensure consistent high class performance and absolute integrity under heavy workloads.
