Tiffany Lighting is attractive

Introduction

Tiffany is a style of lighting that was first created in 1895 under Louis Comfort Tiffany and uses various coloured pieces of glass to create decorative lamps. They were delicately made and were sought after by the aristocracy and well heeled, and came at quite a cost. The value of original Tiffany lamps is considerable today and they are still sought after.

Replica Tiffany Lighting

Tiffany Lighting is now a very broad field with all types of lighting available and not just limited to the table and standard lamps of old. The uses now extend to the use of these lampshades to external lights placed outside of the front door. They are subdued but give a very welcoming feel as you walk up the drive.

Table lamps and standard lamps are of course the most recognised forms of lighting, but there is now a multitude of other choices including ceiling light shades, wall lights, uplighters, novelty lights and picture lights.

The quality of these lights will vary enormously depending on the manufacturer. Some of the lights will be made according to the ...
... original method of a cardboard pattern, over which the glass is overlaid and then cut with the edges being treated with copper foil. The glass is soldered into place and thus you have a piece of quality workmanship. On the flip side there will be imitations that are made of plastic with the coloured plastic being held in place by cheap metal clips. Unlike a good replica light will not be totally contained in the shade but will be visible through the gaps where the poor quality fitting has occurred.

The demand for these shades has now created novelty lights and lights which can now be used to highlight certain features in a room.

Interestingly some pubs will now use Tiffany lighting as a theme. The principal lighting will be of the Tiffany style and the division panels that separate seating areas will have the top of the partition filled with coloured glass in the Tiffany style, thus creating a multi-coloured image.

Due to the delicate colours that can now be used there is a great and increasing demand for this lighting.

Clearly the originals are the best but they are scarce and costly, so be careful that you buy the best quality that you can, and you will have a splendid piece of workmanship to admire for many years.
