The Government Needs A Business Coach

When I work with clients who want to build their businesses, we look at every aspect of their business. We look at their marketing, their staff, their goals, their finances, and their budget. We look at their finances because sometimes a business owner is concerned about their cash flow, but the truth is that if a business owner isn't watching expenses and collections, their cash flow suffers.

It seems to me that the government currently has the same problem. If they really take a look at where all of the money is going, and take a realistic look at where it can come from and where they can expect to get more from, they will be brought down to earth and will be able to do the hard stuff and fix our national budget. Government – all of it from very local to national – all have this idea that if they want more money, they can just bill us and we will pay it. Unfortunately, this is a different economy than 5 years ago. The wealth that was here was more evenly spread, and there were more people to pay it.

I don't understand all of the arguing. It seem that our officials would rather spend their time arguing about ...
... it than doing anything about it. Shut up and fix it. They can keep it away from the media if they are afraid of what their constituents in their districts will say. Make it a closed door session with a scout-type agreement that no one will talk about it outside of the session. I could live with that if it means it will get fixed. I don't have to know how it happens.

As a coach, I am here to guarantee the owner some accountability. Every week we talk about how far they've gotten toward the goal that they tell me they want to reach. It seems to me that Congress and the President need the same thing. I would be happy to call the movers and shakers on a daily basis to see how much progress they've made toward this goal which they all say that they want.

I don't know who will be elected next year. It doesn't seem to matter. It doesn't matter to me as long as we straighten this mess out. All that I want is the same thing that I tell me clients they need to do – Do what you say, when you say it, for the amount you say it will cost.
