Pcs In The Life Of A Semi-retired School Teacher
Just over the horizon in 1980, PCs were making noises, As an elementary school teacher I saw the value of this new on rushing technology. At the time I had just married a real sweet heart of a young lady. Of course, there were other pursiuts besides computers at this time. Computers quietly seduced me with their key board clicks and whirring disk drives.
Running concurrently with my pursuit of more computer skills and knowledge, was the growth of the family, working at my profession, going for my Masters degree, and my growing affection with Amateur Radio and all of its electronic nooks and cranies.
At first, the overall interconnectiveness of all of these aspects of my life was not overly apparent. They melded in slowly as the years hiked through my life and that of my family.
Here,I must add that I have been blessed with a small and cozy abode for my wife and I and our 5 crazily intelligent felines that has not seen a banker in decades.
As mentioned earlier, PCs were a real part of our lives. As my two daughters matured, they also received new PCs, which went with them as they followed Columbus ...
... to new horzons.
The fields around my ears was starting to resemble the snow cluttered foot hills around the WHite Mountains here in New Hampshire. Retirement,or as I PREFER it, a change of venue was making noises beyong the next hill.
The day arrived when, the chatter, hustle and bustle of the classroom faded away and the school door closed behind my shadow. Yes, I stopped as I drove out of the yard - looked back, felt emotions only felt at those times in life when you were about to REALLY know you are going to miss......those 30 some odd years, the faces, the fun, the snow days, the end of the year parties.
It all came to pass.
With the future of a new home and more time for family, myself and new inquiries beckoning with every wisp of wind and sensation of the sun's warm fingers, we settled into anew routine.
Part of the renovation of our new digs was a room dedicated to computers and my affection for radios. This was established with complete relish for the venues about to be unleashed.
Our girls and their families are in New York City and Vermont. They are in constant touch with us via e-mail and Facebook, showing us our grandchildren. I do wish they would connect their video cams so we could see our grand kids each week as they grow, both physically, and intellectually. AH alas perhaps soon.
Besides family interconnectiveness, The ability for our PCs to save us money by downloading coupons for all sort of grocery items, cat food items ( I spend about $25.00 or less a month for 5 cats.) because of the coupon site available to us.
Sites like eBay, Amazon, and many more save us more money plus save on gas, wear and tare on our cars, allow more time for family and our cats, gardening, bike rides for exercise, and much much more.
We can paybills,on line, do banking, purchase stamps, set pick up times for the ebay items Isell from time to time with UPS or the USPS.
One of the more flovorable activities is purchasing $25.00 gift certificates from Restaurant.com. This allows us to us the extra time we have to eat out at a varied selection of local eateries. Our bill is usually about $45.00. the certificate pays for $25.00 of it. The food is great. The discount is the best local dessert going! The discount helps pay for the gas to get there. How sweet it is!
As for myself, I am constantly problem solving with my computers programs, learning how each operates and why it does not. This is good for both of us. We stay in touch with our medical prescription companies and doctors.
We established a home network for our 3 PCs. My wife has hers and I have my two. She uses her for the usual word processing, Facebook, and e-mails. Mine are connected to all of my scanners and radios to control them, change frequencies,, monitor what is going on and more.
To reach new heights, we have established a home buisness at http://www.carolynsamazingdiscounts.com to supplement our overall income. With this we are both on the learning curve - follow the second star on the left..... on ward till morning.
