A reception desk has many functions

Reception desks are now far removed from the table that they used to be with a typewriter, telephone and maybe a modesty board. Today they are multifunctional and will have to be large enough to hold many objects.

Reception counter

A reception counter will incorporate what can be considered to be a desk, but it will not be a separate item. A counter is needed when the receptionist needs to have some distance between her and the clients so that confidentiality can be maintained. Also they are suitable for displaying brochures on the company, or for protecting the receptionist if it is for example a dental surgery where money will change hands.

The counter will be able to accommodate the receptionists' laptop or desktop monitor, a fax machine or scanner or even a printer. Those desks though appear to have had their day as the current desks at a minimum will have a return. The return is necessary as the need to have a fax, printer or scanner or all three close to hand is important. The desks will normally be made of wood and will have an accompanying set of drawers for storage of various items.
