Information About Tea In Chinese Buddhism Culture

In Chinese legends, tea appeared as early as B.C. 2700. The earliest monograph on tea is the Book of Tea, which was written by Lu Yu in Tang dynasty. In addition, this book is also the earliest monograph on tea in the whole world history. Till now, Book of Tea has been translated into more than ten languages around the world.
The widespread of tea around the common people was after the Tang dynasty, which was closely related with the popularity of Buddhism. In some temples, the Buddhist monks not only had tea alone, but also held tea meetings. We can say that tea was vinculum of keeping touch with friends.
All we know that tea has many benefits for the human health. It can help to digest the foods and keep down the sex impulse. The most important point is that tea has the functions of refreshing. Therefore, Buddhist monks liked having tea very much and tea was indispensable in the regular life of the monks.

The teas that the Buddhist monks had were different from the teas that common people had. They saw drinking tea as one part of their temple and religion life. Therefore, we can call it the culture of tea in the Buddhism. In the long history of having tea, even the tea competition appeared in the temples, which was most popular in the Song dynasty.
In China, having tea and the development of Buddhism are closely related. In addition, the tea culture in Buddhism attributes to the popularity of tea among the ordinary people.
