The Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling has gained a lot of popularity for over a decade. J.K. Rowling created a whole world that appeals to individuals of all ages. One interesting aspect of the series is the game she created called Quidditch. Quidditch is a sport for wizards that is played while flying on broomsticks. It is the equivalent of football for muggles.

There are seven players on each team. There are three chasers, one keeper, one seeker, and a beater. The game involves four balls which are a quaffle, two bludgers, and a golden snitch. The keeper is in charge of guarding the three goal posts while the chasers try to score goals by tossing one of the quaffles through the posts. The job of the beaters is to keep the bludgers away from their team and to try and hit their opponents with them. The seeker chases the golden snitch, which is a tiny flying ball. This is the hardest job and the most important. Harry mastered being a seeker on his first try. The team that catches the golden snitch first wins the game.

The object is to score the most points by making goals or catching the golden snitch. The ...
... game is not over until the snitch is caught so it can go on for many days. The quiddich game record is six months.

J. K. Rowling has created rules for the game as well and words to explain the fouls. One rule is that a player can not touch another player's broom. This is called blagging. Another rule is that a player cannot fly with the intent to collide with any other player. This is called blatching. There is a whole list of rules that are created for this game. There is also a list of the fouls. It is very interesting how she was able to create every aspect of the game.

The game is reenacted in 65 colleges in 25 states in the U.S. There is no flying brooms but the players still have to keep the broom between their legs and hold it with one hand. The golden snitch is a cross country player that is dressed in all yellow. If you catch the "snitch" you win the game. It is a such a big hit that college students even purchase the Nimbus broomstick, just like in the movie.
