Police lightbar is often mounted on top of police vans or cars used by highway patrol cars. These light bars have to be extremely reliable as they are used in emergency operations, rescue and search missions. They also have to be highly resilient particularly because they have to be used in all kinds of weather conditions, whether it is raining, snowing or foggy. This is why light bars are made with extruded aluminum chassis and polycarbonate base and domes which offer maximum protection to the lights. These lights are moisture, dust and corrosion resistant. They are also vibration resistant unlike ordinary lights and hence can be used on speeding vehicles where there could be plenty of jarring and bumping.

A Police lightbar comes with an extensive range of features. They have a low profile, modular design. The modular design ensures that individual parts are easily repairable and replaceable. Full-fledged light bars are usually designed by configuring several LED modules, in linear and conical designs, together. This ensures that the light bar continues to function even if one or two segments have broken ...
... due to some reason. The light bars also come with custom fit, designed for installation on specific cars. There are a lot of manufacturers who custom-design these LED light bars upon order. Some of these light bars are fitted with shock plates to ensure that the functionality of the lights isn’t affected due to rugged or heavy-duty usage.

A Police lightbar usually comes with strobe lights, both front and rear facing, hideaway lights which are virtually undetectable, warning and side marker lights, alley lights and takedown lights. Roof mounted light bars are the most popular models. Some light bars come with blackout or dimmer operations, where the intensity of the lights can be controlled to the minutest level. For example, it is possible to vary the intensity of the lights from 0 to 100%. There are specially designed light bars where the light intensity gets brighter and the beams wider, as you move away from the light bar. These are highly effective in scenarios where warning lights are needed to caution those who are a long distance away. They can be used to prevent chain collision accidents on a highway, where there already has been a wreckage, spillage or crash.

A Police lightbar also has a traffic directional functionality integrated into it. This is used in special scenarios where crowds have to be dispersed or alleys have to be cleared during rescue operations. Several varieties of flash patterns are available in the light bars including intersection and directional flash patterns and flashing takedowns. The design of these light bars is such that they cause less air noise and have a low profile for covert operations. Some of these light bars have both front and rear cut-offs, along with dimmer control and cruise light modes. Programmable light bars are designed for simple installation using just a couple of power cables, to avoid complex circuitry. These lights bars use advanced technology for great versatility including plug and play operation and a wide range of flashing patterns.
