There are several lighting options when it comes to emergency vehicles. The kind of lighting you use depends on the size of the vehicles. You would need different dimensions of emergency light bars, for example, for compact cars and tow trucks. A full-fledged light bar can measure up to 72 inches in length and is ideal for vehicles that are usually involved in large scale rescue, search or patrolling operations. These lights come with 12 – 18 independently controllable flashing strobe lights along with pairs of side marker lights, alley lights and takedown lights. Some of these LED light bars even come with traffic directional advisors which come very handy when crowds have to be dispersed to clear traffic jams or to make way through crowded alleys to a crisis site where help has to reach immediately.

The opposite of a full length light bar is a mini light bar, sometimes measuring just 16 inches. These mini light bars come with a dozen LED lights or a pair of strobe lamps depending upon the requirement. Beacons are another example of smaller lights for emergency vehicles. They can be easily mounted with ...
... the help of simple screws and 1” mount holes. Floating magnets can also be used to install these on both flat and curved surfaces. This is far easier compared to the installation of larger light bars which need stainless steel mounting straps, swivel brackets, clamps or suction cups. Bolts can also be used in some cases although the mounting position and the mounting mechanism can vary a lot depending upon the vehicle. In some cases, it might not be possible to make holes on the roof of the vehicle.

Solid state electronic components are increasingly being used in mini light bars which offer extensive functionality and great portability. That is the reason the magnetic mounted warning lights or mini bar lights are popularly used. 16 inch light bars for emergency vehicles can be designed to accommodate as many as 200 super bright LEDs for high intensity lights. Moreover, a combination of front and rear facing LED modules can be used in mini light bars for extensive visibility. Rotating light bars can also provide 360 degree visibility which might be required in some cases where the light has to be flashed in all directions. This could be a scenario when there are several vehicles in hot pursuit of a speeding car on a highway, or when one emergency vehicle is leading the way to a rescue site.

emergency vehicles use light bars with Generation III LEDs which provide high output with low input and hence can be powered by simple 12 -24V DC power supply. Then there are simple warning lights, which can produce up to 60 flashes every minute are available in multiple colors like amber, red and blue. They can be turned on with a simple cigarette lighter plug and include a polycarbonate base and lens that is vibration and weather resistant. Rotating beacons come with UV stabilization domes. Some types of emergency lighting equipment also include the use of optical elements like Fresnel deflectors and diamond shaped mirrors for magnification of beams.
