Few women drop completely from the symptoms. The most common PMS symptoms include depression, irritability, mood swings, fluid retention, bloating and other stomach problems.
What happens in the body?
Menstrual cycle in most women lasts around 28 days, counted from the first day of bleeding to the first day of bleeding in the next round. Estrogen is the main female sex hormone. This hormone varies throughout the cycle with two peaks where the concentration is especially high. The first top is around ovulation, and the last right before your period starts. When estrogen levels are high, the level of calcium in the blood will low. This in turn makes other hormones increase in the quantity. One of these is a hormone called PTH and secreted from the parathyroid gland in the neck. PTH seems to be responsible for many of the problems that occur with PMS. Because PTH increases as a result of a low blood calcium levels may be beneficial to ensure ...
... a high intake of calcium through diet. This applies both in general and when they have problems.
Many women get too little calcium
A survey conducted by Synovate has revealed that as many as 74% of young women aged 16-24 years consume too little calcium. Data suggest that the situation of elderly women have not been any better.
How to get in the NOK?
A healthy and varied diet without dairy products provides about half the calcium your body needs every day. Three servings of dairy products cover the rest of the need. These can, for example, three glasses of milk. Or a glass of milk, a yogurt and a slice of bread with cheese.
