Demand for reliable, high speed and cost efficient backup storage technologies has increased astoundingly as the threat of data loss including viruses, hackers, software bugs and operating errors are on the rise. As a result, all types of organizations are challenged with devising a reliable data protection strategy, while maximizing their shrinking I.T budgets. AIT (advanced intelligent tape) is the culmination of Sony’s unmatched engineering expertise and technical excellence in tape industry. Physical size of Sony AIT tape cartridges is smallest within their class, whereas the fast data transfer speed of Sony AIT drives makes it a compelling tape media format for space constrained organizations.

Sony AIT 4 tape delivers excellent performance and low-cost backup solution to a variety of midsized organizations, transportable storage applications, small data centers, financial institutions, server/client environments and enterprise workgroups.

Industry leading recording density and low ownership cost further add to its attractive attributes. Native data amount of 200 GB can be backed up on a single AIT4 ...
... cartridge. For long term data protection against unintentional over-writings and common operating errors, Sony has developed WORM-enabled AIT4, SDX4-200W tape cartridge. Part number of rewritable AIT4 media tape is SDX4200C. WORM technology prevents modification of archived data files, thus providing a cost-efficient solution for satisfying the stringent industry and government regulations. So the customers can choose the Sony AIT-4 backup tape, which best suits their storage needs.

AIT-4 half-height drives developed by Sony are SDX-900V (internal drive) and SDX-D900V/NB (external drive). These tape drives, based on 3.5-inch form factor, deliver the speed and data accuracy demanded by today’s backup applications. With an exceptional 24 MB/sec native speed, the data backup rate of Sony AIT4 drives reaches up to 86.4GB/hour. Sony has introduced an extremely robust drive head in AIT 4 drives, which features longer life expectancy of 50,000 tape contact hours. This enables the Sony AIT4 drives to achieve a remarkable 400,000 hours MTBF at 100% duty cycles, making it the ideal tape storage medium for demanding SMBs.

Sony AIT4 drives offer backward read compatibility with previous three versions of AIT tape, which reaches up to the AIT-1 tape. The AIT4 drives can also seamlessly restore and write data to AIT-3 tape cartridges. With this remarkable backward compatibility, the investment made by the business enterprises in previous generation AIT tape solutions will be extended. Data compression ratio offered by Sony AIT drive is also higher than rival tape drives. Sony AIT drives reliably compress the data files at an impressive rate of 2.6:1. Therefore, the data storage capability of Sony AIT4 media tape seamlessly increases to 520 GB. The users can efficiently manage their voluminous corporate data with fewer Sony AIT-4 tapes. Moreover, they will occupy lesser shelf space, which is ideal for space constrained business enterprises. Sony has embedded a small memory chip in the high-capacity AIT4 tapes to help reduce media loading/unloading time and accelerate the data searching speed.
