Established in 1788 as the site of the first British colony in Australia, Sydney has become the largest and most populated city in the island continent comprising a multicultural, international population, as it also serves as a center for international commerce, fashion, education and tourism, moreover to arts, entertainment and music including its most major annual event, the Sydney Festival and the most recent Sydney Festival 2011.

First held in 1977, the annual festival is the greatest cultural event of Australia, taking place every January, involving around 80 events including visual arts, drama, circus, dance,
classical and contemporary music along with artist talks seeing world famous leading actors like John Malkovich in a conversation during the most recent Sydney Festival 2011, as a defining voice of contemporary culture as well as seeing world famous Beck hosting a Festival Bar and a Festival Garden.

The total of audience reaches an estimate of around one million visitors unanimously attracted to this three weeks long magnificent festival.

Offering around 80 events, 300 performances and over a thousand artists from the continent and also worldwide, the Sydney Festival 2011 programs included such a diversity that matched the tastes of both contemporary savvy art enthusiasts as to indigenous arts with plenty of family programs to enjoy and dance to.

The Sydney Festival is open to all, with outdoor concerts and Summer Sounds, offering a wide range of events with both free and ticketed shows, for locals and visitors alike. Tickets are available at around 25 to 30 Dollars, even for a group of shows lasting an hour long.

Since the Sydney Festival 2011, with almost a million guests was the most attended cultural event in the island continent of Australia, hopes are for the Sydney Festival 2012 to exceed that number of visitors.
