May what change in a human being, but the emotional aspect present in them would get modified but would not completely change. Generations to generations have passed by but the emotional aspects of staying independent would never change in the mind of an individual.

Being independent is one such factor that keeps the force within functioning rightfully till the last breathe. If a physical issue arises and that leads to disability, it would cause a lot of mental strain for that individual, who has always accomplished all his/her work by themselves and never depended on anyone else. By depending on family members and friends for every small work can create instability in their mind, which may lead to loneliness and mentally being disturbed.
