The UK government recommends for LGV Training and CPC training for drivers to drive commercial vehicles. Without receiving such a license commercial vehicles cannot be driven and if driven, can be considered illegal and subjected to criminal procedure. Thus, it is quite essential for a driver to get LGV/HGV license and become eligible for driving LGV or PCV; this is done so that the lives of others on the road are not jeopardized owing to ill-training of drivers.

Nonetheless, the new EU 2003/59 amendment and traffic rules for the UK focus heavily upon the training so that driving skills from drivers are improved. During the essential training drives are told to learn about the road safety rules and avoid any wrong-happening that may come if the rules are not followed properly. Moreover, when a driver who is driving a commercial vehicle without having a CPC training certificate can be punished under the UK law; therefore, it is necessary to have one.

Commercial vehicle drivers earn hefty salaries and for that reason these are so popular that every time there is recruitment for the position a huge queue can be seen ...
... at the spot. One of the highly paid jobs in driving, commercial vehicle driving can be a perfect career for drivers who show great discipline and dedication and commitment. Nevertheless, attaining LGV license is a major achievement and quite tough too.

LGV is divided into two categories i.e. C and C+E; the categorization holds a different aspect for the holder of the certification. For instance, the driver has class C LGV license; he can drive vehicles weighing 7.5 tones. On the other hand, C+E license holder driver can drive a much larger vehicle along with a trailer. However, one primary qualification for applying for such heavy licenses is that the driver must have UK driver's license.

There are various parts in LGV or HGV test; for instance, the practical driving test is the fundamental one i.e. the driver is asked to show his skills driving the commercial vehicle for which he is applying license for. More importantly, the driver is expected to show his skills with respect to the knowledge of safety standards and knowledge of road signals. Once the driver has shown that he has all those skills that are required, he is awarded with LGV and HGV license and enabled to drive commercial vehicles.
