To be proactive is to be prepared, and being prepared for an emergency is extremely important. Learning CPR is one of the most important and selfless things you can do, because you are ensuring that in case of an emergency, you will be able to take action and potentially aid another in trying to save their life. In Canada, the Canadian Red Cross is the authorized training partner for those looking for first aid courses. Specifically, for CPR training in Toronto, there is a multitude of companies offering courses and many are not even sure which level of certification they would benefit from most.

Before enrolling in any type of training, it is important to note the options available to you. There are CPR classes with a focus on just cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and then there are classes that combine CPR with first aid training. Here are a few guidelines to be aware of:

CPR Level A is a course that is based around adult casualties. This course will teach the basics of respiratory or cardiac emergencies to be administered on persons eight years of age and older. The course is intended for the general public, ...
... and would be useful to have in the workplace.

CPR Level C teaches procedures about adult, child, and baby. This is the level of CPR that one would find useful if they are around different age groups, especially places such as schools, camps and other locations with an abundance of children. From lifeguards to fire fighters, to the general public, this course proves useful for anyone and is recommended.

CPR Level HCP teaches the same as the above but is more indepth as it is geared towards health care professionals. Additional skills include advanced circulation check, use of a BVM (Bag Valve Mask), and rescue breathing. Doctors, nurses, paramedics and other health care professionals are required to take this course.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a CPR certification card. This is an official card from the Canadian Red Cross which is commonly valid for three years. Note that with the abundance of CPR training in Toronto, it would be easy to recertify your CPR certificate every year, and is recommended. Always be in the know, be safe, and be prepared. With the proper education and training, when it comes down to it, you could save a life.
