Part of summer fun is taking day trips to visit fairs, flea markets, boot fairs and open-air markets. Whether relaxing on holiday at a cottage or at home, it feels good to get away for a few hours to enjoy the country side. Even taking a day or two on the weekend to enjoy day-trips can provide a nice escape from the hum-drum of routine life.

Garage sales are fun to find as well. Every city and small town has more than its share of garage sales. Sometimes entire neighbourhoods will combine their efforts and hold one large garage sale every year.

Very often, people holidaying at summer cottages will visit the numerous garden sales spread out throughout the smaller communities. These are particularly great places to find unique items. It is very common to find interesting antiques at these garden sales as well.

Quite often people have inherited a cottage. Sometimes people purchase cottages and wish to get rid of a lot of the "stuff" that came with it. Many people would prefer to sell their antique items at a garden sale rather than doing business with antique dealers. They would prefer that they sell items ...
... personally to people who will cherish the item rather than to have them go through a middle-man.

The fun thing about antique hunting at garden sales in the country is that you never know when you might find something unusual, different or significant in some way. Some families have had interesting art objects and furniture for so many years they feel them to be rather commonplace and not very special.

If you are looking for the best finds at any garden or boot sale, it is prudent to get to your destination as early as possible. This way you can beat the antique dealers to the punch. It is also a good idea to get there in early-summer as there will be more to 'choose from because the product hasn't been picked over by the masses.

Great art pieces can often be found at summer garden sales. More often than not, unusual or special pieces can be purchased at bargain prices.

If you are looking for handmade pottery, there is usually at least one artist in cottage country or in the smaller communities found on summer day-trip excursions. When you find a piece of pottery that suits your fancy, it makes the get-away day all that much sweeter to remember.
Boutique Provencale offer a huge range of Dishes pottery and other French home accessories including a great French tablecloths.
