In India urban green belts are considered lungs of cities, as they act like sinking some of the harmful gases released by vehicles and industries operating within the city. It covers a large area or a small belt, green belts can be found in all cities and play an important role.

Urban areas in India are facing an excessive population pressure unplanned economic development, industrialization and vehicle emissions. This has led to greatly increase urban pollution, affecting air, water and earth which makes urban development in India a neccesity.

Air pollution has increased rapidly in many cities and towns, especially due to road traffic and industrial emissions. Over the years, the population growth has led to a decrease in open spaces and green areas in cities due to lack of project management in India. These parks are the lungs of cities and towns in India. They serve as sinks for pollutants, control the flow of dust and reduce noise.
Plants are numerous environmental benefits and taking into account the constant increase in air pollution. There should be propoer monitoring of real estate investments in ...
... India to increase green areas in cities and the surrounding places.

Sanjay Gandhi National Park is commonly known as Borivili National Park and serves as the lungs of Mumbai. It is located about 40 km from the island to the north of Mumbai, and about 8 km from the Arabian Sea. This forest has a history dating back to the 4 th century BC. Trade route linking Greece and the Middle East ports Sopara (Nalasopara) and Kalyan passed through this forest. Kanheri rock cut caves were ancient settlements dating back 1 Buddhist century. They also served as rest houses for travelers.

After the land development in India took place, when Forest Department was created in 1945, the forests have been identified and brought to proper management.

The park is approximately 104 square kilometers. This national park is one of the few, perhaps the only of its kind that is so close to the city. Constitutes the forest area of the catchment area of Tulsi and Vihar lakes, which are important sources of water in Mumbai, and will help keep down pollution levels.

The natural vegetation of the park is also influenced by the climate in the city in a big way. During the monsoon, this park and the surrounding areas will receive the maximum rainfall, which implies that there is a large amount of rainwater is stored which can then be used to satisfy the heavy demand for water, the citizens of Mumbai.

Project Management in India is running at a very slow rate, hence in Mumbai there is not much room left that can be described as "green belts", but places like Sanjay Gandhi National Park (which is the only green space left) is also ignored by the state government and for many years this site is subject to encroachment.

Integrated townships in India is a solution to the problem of dissapearing green belts which will fuel urban development in India.
