What Is The Information We Should Know About Paxil Side Effects

Paxil is an anti-depressant drug, approved by the FDA for use in adults suffering from depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder.
Several years ago, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) modified its warning labeling of Paxil and other SSRIs to include words of caution regarding the occurrence of suicidal thoughts and tendencies among some users of the drugs. Paxil in particular may increase instances of suicidal ideation or behavior when prescribed to children or adolescents.
Pregnant women need to be especially careful when taking Paxil or another SSRI, as they have been proven to cause significant birth defects. Included among these abnormalities are serious cardiac and pulmonary defects, as well as cranial and spinal malformations, and instances of cleft lip/palate and limb deformities.
The side effects listed here are just a few of the many potential difficulties that can occur when taking Paxil. It is always best to speak to a physician or mental health professional about whether or not benefits of taking an SSRI to treat depression or anxiety outweigh ...
... the risks of experiencing one or more of these side effects.
Patients who have had Paxil prescribed for them have also exhibited significantly increased suicidal and homicidal tendencies, resulting in suicide attempts, suicides, and homicides.
Paxil became a drug that some patients were required to continue taking to keep these symptoms at bay. Nonetheless, it was 9 years after Paxil was first approved by the FDA before the FDA required stricter warnings about the side effects of withdrawal.
The children of women taking Paxil during pregnancy may be at an increased risk of serious congenital birth defects, including heart defects or respiratory problems. Other serious side effects of Paxil include an increased risk of suicide and addiction.
Paroxetine may cause heart defects or serious, life-threatening lung problems in newborn babies whose mothers take the medication during pregnancy. However, you may have a relapse of depression if you stop taking your antidepressant during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, or if you become pregnant while taking paroxetine, do not stop taking the medication without first talking to your doctor.
Paxil may cause a condition called hyponatremia. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms: headache, difficulty concentrating, confusion, weakness, unsteadiness, hallucinations, falls, or seizures.
Paxil may cause eye problems such as glaucoma (high pressure in the eye). Contact your doctor immediately if you notice any vision changes.
