Think About Using Multiple Monitors

We live in an era of tremendous visual stimulation. The way we look at the world is very different now. We now have high definition viewing and even 3d technology. Our tv screens and computer monitors are flat these days. Flat is in! And once you go flat you never go back!

Years ago I couldn’t have the Multiple Monitors I have now if it wasn’t for the way the new flat built. Having one screen these days is permissible for the typical home computer where mom checks email once a day. If you are a trader, you have to have multiple monitors, at least 2 screens. Thinking that the more screens you have the better trader you will be is absurd. The question is “how good are you at utilizing your resources, in this case your multiple monitors?

Everybody is different. Depending on the trading style, traders will determine the type of information that they will need at all times. Some day traders need 1 hour charts, 5 minute charts and even up to 1 minute charts. Other traders can even get more specific. Some traders want to have news wires accessible ...
... at all times. Some might even want to have CNBC on while they trade. For the newbies and less serious traders having access to facebook could be really important. They cannot stand the idea of being disconnected from the world. They need to be constantly informed about what their friends are doing at the mall while they are seating in front of their multi-monitor computer trying to figure out the why does the market always goes against them. So, as you can see it all depends on what you consider important. More than likely, as you mature in this business you are going to find out that less is better. I am not suggesting to give up your nice 8 monitor setup, what I mean is you will learn to be more selective as of what is relevant for your trading and life in general. Information is good but it all depends on the source.

Having said this and after you decide how many monitors to have, I do advise you to shop around and get good quality monitors. Don’t forget that the key to having multiple monitors is having the right multi monitors graphics card. You also need to know that the video outputs need to match. It is not just about getting the monitors; it is also about all the little extra things you will need to have a great setup.
