Our Marriage Sparkles More Now Than Ever

"I love perusing the weekend editions of the newspapers which I find very relaxing. The newspapers arrive really early, before the sun even rises. The papers come early enough for me to peruse to check out what sales are coming up in the next week or months to follow. Quite soon it would be Valentine's Day. The sentimental stuff I tend to buy often ends up with a layer of dust sitting on a shelf somewhere. In the advertisements were some Zale's coupons and some information about big sales that were going to happen.
While I was looking through the advertisements and sale papers, I noticed my wife of 50 years chatting with one of our grandchildren. When I heard her say something about Valentine's Day coming again, I could see she was feeling the spirit of the holiday. She was so giddy she didn't sound like someone who had experienced lots of Valentine's Day holidays.
After 50 years, one might believe that jewelry or candy isn't required any more. Valentine's Day is most definitely not a holiday that someone outgrows. I will always remember the first time we had celebrated the holiday together. I didn't ...
... have much money at the time but I was able to get her a little something. I had given her a very tiny diamond necklace while we were out taking a stroll around the town.
Gift giving is simple for me since jewelry is always a gift she really wants. On further reflection, maybe I should have invested more in the shiny baubles she likes. Filling up her jewelry box with beautiful things is something she constantly reminds me that I can do. Purchasing a new container for all her jewelry might even be a good idea too. There's those kind that can easily be placed in a corner that hold watches, necklaces, and rings. So I made my excursion out to the store one day while my wife was away running errands with our daughter. It was as if they had planned their trip to town just for me. With all the time I had available, I was able to get everything done at the store. I am not, typically, that interested in jewelry myself. Guessing what my wife likes is hard, as is selecting a diamond because I haven't the foggiest idea what I should be looking for. I figure just so long as it sparkles and was big enough she would like it. My available choices were very extensive. I could tell right away that I needed to sneak out more often to shop and surprise her more often."
