Visit The Most Popular Places Of The East Midlands, England
The East Midlands is one of the regions of England and comprises of most of the eastern half of the traditional region of the Midlands. This region is made up of six counties: Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland. This holiday destination is well linked via road and rail with London, many of the major towns and cities in the region are located between one and three hours from the capital.
The East Midlands has amazing sporting history including Silverstone race track, Trent Bridge cricket ground, Leicester Tigers rugby union club and Notts County FC – the World’s oldest football league club. There are many interesting places to visit while on Midlands’ tour. Apart from the things like the Peak District National Park and Silverstone, there are many others not to miss on your visit.
The Peak National Park is dominated by bleak “Edges” of hard rock, and caves of limestone at castleton in Derbyshire. The village of Eyam is famous for the villages isolating themselves to prevent the spread of plague to other villages and contains significant items of historical ...
... interest.
From the magnificent castles and stately homes that provide a unique glimpse into the past, inspiring countryside with sweeping green hills and dramatic rocky outcrops are centre of attractions for tourists. Apart from countryside, the cosmopolitan cities offer a gist of life combining shopping with night life. On your visit, pick car hire in East Midlands to visit historic market towns, majestic gardens and locations that have inspired movie makers.
Nottinghamshire contains the remnant of Sherwood Forest, alleged home of Robin Hood. Although much of The Sherwood Forest Leisure Park is a modern plantation, there is still an ancient tree known as the "Major Oak" associated with the area.
The East Midlands covers three major landscape areas. The relatively flat coastal plain Lincolnshire, the river valley of the Trent, the third largest (and longest) river in England, and the southern end of the Pennine range of hills in Derbyshire. Take a rental car in East Midlands to enjoy the natural bliss of these landscapes.
The Severn in Nottinghamshire has a spectacular tidal wave or “Aegier.” This place is worth visiting whereas Lincoln is a small, old cathedral city to the east of the region. The place is well worth a visit for a cathedral alone, which some consider is the most beautiful building in Europe. The castle also has one of the four surviving original copies of the Magna Carta. This is truly a fascinating old town with cobbled streets and unusual shops. Rural Lincolnshire has a vast range of small towns, most of which are worth a brief look. In the spring, Spalding hosts a bulb festival every year with floats made up of tulips.
On the East coast, the wildlife sanctuary at Donna Nook is an excellent place to watch seals, but on your visit check their available time. There are beaches too where you can have a leisure time enjoying the sunset with the cool breeze pampering you.
