Availability, integrity and protection of vast data amounts produced by public organizations, businesses and financial institutions are very crucial for organization’s success. While selecting the best optimal backup storage technology that best fits their I.T environments is where the IT managers have to make careful decisions. The three major attributes of every backup storage technology are reliability, compatibility and performance that are carefully inspected by the I.T managers. AIT (advanced intelligent tape) format delivers unbeatable reliability, outstanding compatibility and exceptional performance at an affordable price.

The AIT tape technology was developed by Sony to better serve the storage needs of E-businesses, busy data centers and mid-sized enterprises. AIT tape storage format is a reflection of technical excellence and innovative storage solutions by Sony. Latest generation of Sony AIT-5 tape technology is characterized by the 3.5 inch tape drives, AME-III (Advanced Metal Evaporated) formulation, durable Magneto resistive (MR) head, high speed helical scan system and innovative R-MIC (remote memory ...
... in cassette) chip.

Sony SDX5-400C cartridge, white Bezel Kit, warranty card and Symantec Backup Exec come with the Sony AIT-i1040SLE drive. Where Sony SDX-400W WORM tape and SDX5-CL cleaning cartridge is included as an optional accessory. Sony AIT-i1040SLE is a high speed SCSI internal tape drive, representing the AIT-5 media tape technology. Sony AIT5 cartridge has a recording capacity of 400GB native data. Sony AIT-i1040SLE SCSI drive also features high speed data rate of 24MB/s.

Sony AIT-5 tape media cartridges and drives are the foremost choice of business enterprises due to their superior durability and high backup speed. Sony AIT-5 tape drives are ideally engineered for greater read/write reliability, low cost backup operations and unparalleled performance. Sony SDX5-400W is a WORM enabled AIT-5 data tape, and the Sony SDX5-400C tape does not feature the WORM capability. WORM functionality is supported by both the Sony AIT-e1040SLE drive and the Sony SDX5-400W cartridge. On the other hand the SDX5-400C is a rewritable AIT5 cartridge, thus providing more flexibility. Users can select the AIT-5 media cartridge that best suits with their backup needs. The unintentional data over-writes can be prohibited, accidental file deletions and long-term compliance storage can also be assured by using the WORM feature offered by AIT-5.

Sony AIT-i1040SLE AIT5 is the optimal tape drive which secures your I.T investments. With Sony AIT-5 drive, you can also use the AIT-3EX, AIT3 and AIT-4 tape cartridges. The backward compatibility includes both data read/write capability with the previous three AIT generations. The backward compatible AIT tapes are listed below:

Sony AIT-3, SDX3-100C backup tape

Sony AIT3, SDX3-100W data tape

Sony AIT-3EX, SDX3X150CWW tape

Sony AIT-4, SDX4200CWW tape

Sony AIT4, SDX4-200C media tape

Sony AIT-4, SDX4200WWW tape

With the help of Adaptive Lossless Data Compression (2.6:1), the AIT-5 drive reliably compresses the data with higher precision. Therefore the media capacity of high speed AIT-5 media tape extends to 1.04 TB, at this rate. So you can seamlessly accommodate higher data amounts, while improving the overall backup performance.
