Disorders that occur in children are of various kinds, some affect the physicality’s, some affect the brain, some affect the mental ability and some are chromosomal disorders. Children having such disorder definitely require support and guidance, but the parents of such children too need the right kind of guidance and orientation to accept the truth and find appropriate solutions for it.

Down syndrome or Down’s syndrome is a chromosomal disorder caused by the presence of an extra 21st chromosome in the body of a child. The effects of this particular disorder vary widely from person to person depending on their genetic history. This form of chromosomal disorder is the most recognizable form of mental disability present in certain children, which can be identified during pregnancy or in a baby at birth. Various physical characteristics develop gradually, that helps the parents recognize the disorder present in their child. Individuals having, down syndrome have to be concerned about their health and well being, as they may have to go through major health issues that include, high risk for congenital heart problems which would lead to beating of the heart at longer intervals, ear infections which may further lead to hearing loss, disturbed sleep issues leading to fatigue and tiredness, and, even major thyroid problems which may lead worst physical conditions, making them dependant entirely on their parents and not being able to lead a happy normal life , like many other children of their age would be leading.

Children with Down syndrome are greatly benefitted and show faster recovery, by being able to learn and explore in a secured and supportive environment. These children show marked improvement by being included in family, community and preschool life, that help a child suffering from this particular disorder to develop to his/her full potential, which may help them lead a normal life some day. While social interactions lead to development, which are often quite good and productive. However, development in certain other areas such as motor skills, speech and language are usually delayed, when it comes to Down syndrome affected individuals, because some children may have major development delays. Children with Down syndrome are easily prone to illnesses, vision and hearing impairments, which contribute to the child's learning difficulties leading to delay in development. These issues can be detected and rectified by regular health checkups which are very important for children affected with disorders. All they demand is care and understanding from parents and guardians.
