This is the new movie is the latest movie picture by Tom Shadyac. “I Am” cost Shadyac no more than a couple of plane tickets and a handycam because the director of “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” and “Evan Almighty” has sold his mansion, Mercedes, and worldly possessions, given away the proceeds, and made a documentary about the meaning of life. Who’s going to enjoy new movie release “I Am”? Stoners, college students and the overly sentimental are going to love it.
Shadyac decided to meet the world’s great thinkers and request the answers to two questions. He wanted to know what’s wrong with the world today and what we should do about it. Shadyac doesn’t just jump in when meeting important thinkers. He takes the time to introduce himself and still has a sense of humor, which is obvious when someone like Desmond Tutu tells him that he’s never heard of “Ace Ventura.”
The answers that he expects fail to surface. In fact, scientists tell him that animals are cooperative creatures and that if they can get along, we should be able to get along, too.

... why a creature like a chimp would share a meal with another chimp. What’s in it for him or her? Well, perhaps the chimp hopes, as far a chimp can hope, that should the going get tough, that the chimp with which he’s sharing his food, will share food with him someday.
Shadyac, in upcoming movie “I Am,” decides that this cooperation is proof that all living things are somehow connected. He decides that we are inherently compassionate. He talks about his father who works as a doctor at a hospital for children. The star of this movie is a bowl of yogurt. Really. The yogurt has electrodes in it that can tell when Shadyac is stressed out. This isn’t “Ace Ventura.” But, if a few people see the movie and decide to be a little more compassionate, it will have been a movie worth seeing.
