Bleeding Gums When Brushing Should Alarm You
How do you react to bleeding nose? Or to heavy blood from accidental cuts? How about oozing blood from stab wound? These are bloody and any sight of blood that’s not normal is not good and can be alarming. Whether or not you’re terrified of seeing that crimson red liquid anywhere outside your body, bleeding gums when brushing should be considered a serious reason to make an immediate dental appointment with your dentist. A healthy gum is not supposed to bleed when you brush or floss your teeth or when you eat crispy chips or crusty pie . A healthy gum is pink, not red and it’s firm, not swollen.
One of the gum infection symptoms includes bleeding gums. Other symptoms of infected or inflamed gums are persistent pain, bad breath or halitosis, and red, tender and swollen gums. Because of the presence of infection, pus may also be present. Bleeding gums when brushing is one of the early signs of gum disease and should not be ignored. Early detection of any diseases of the oral system structures will save your teeth and money and most importantly, your life. If you suspect something that’s not normal, it pays to see ...
... a professional who can help detect early stages of any disease not just gum diseases.
When gum infection symptoms manifest, you should start evaluating your own dental and oral hygiene practices. Most infections are caused by bacterial growth due to plaque and tartar accumulation. Although it needs huge build up for symptoms to appear, you should be reminded that bacteria can thrive when your hygienic routines are poor. Personal dental and oral management should include a lot of conscience that will drive you to always ask yourself if you’ve brushed enough to decrease (It may be impossible to totally eliminate plaque if you haven’t been to the dentist for some prophylaxis.) the number of bacteria; if you’re using the correct and dentist-prescribed toothbrush, toothpaste and mouthwash; if you’ve checked for any bleeding gums when brushing; and if there is a need to visit the dentist already for regular dental check-up.
You should be alarmed when your gums bleed because it gives you a warning that something should be done. A gum infection is easily treatable but if ignored, it can progress to become a serious disease that can compromise your immune system and can even cause you your life especially when you are diabetic or have some heart problems. It takes only several quality minutes of good, daily oral and dental hygiene for you to maintain a good quality of life.
