If you are planning to update your makeup look for Autumn, you will probably be planning to buy some new colors in terms of eyes shadow and lipstick. If you need to, ask the assistant to apply what she or you think are the closest matches to your face (they often suggest that the back of your hand will do, but I find that my hands are a completely different shade from that of the skin on my face, so this does not really work for me), borrow a mirror and go outside into natural light, where you will be able to assess the colors much more accurately. If necessary, ask for a small sample (take a little pot with you in case they do not have sample sizes of the colors you want; that way, they can pour a little of the relevant colors in for you to use and evaluate at home) to take away.
