Photon 4g - Verizon's New 4g Smartphone
Motorola Photon 4G review
The Motorola Photon 4G smartphone is the latest addition to the 4G lineup from Sprint.
The Photon comes equipped with a large 4.3 inch LCD display, a dual core processor and WiMax.
Does the Photon hold its own against similar phones on the market? Let's review some features of this
phone so that you can make a determination on whether or not this phone can compete with its competitors.
The Photon 4G weighs in at approximately 5.57 ounces and is .48 inches thick. The backside of the phone holds the eight megapixel camera that carries a dual LED flash module. The backside also includes two microphones, a speaker, a kickstand, and the famous Motorola logo. The camera features a dual-core processor created by NVIDIA, that provides one full gigahertz (GHz) of processing power to the phone. The one gigabyte of memory in the phone more than sufficient, while sixteen gigabytes of storage space provide ample room for apps, pictures, videos and more.
Now, let's discuss the picture quality of this phone, which has no "night mode" setting. This phone takes excellent pictures ...
... in most lighting conditions, but when using this camera in places with little to no light, the pictures appear dim. The colors also appear much less vibrant when compared to pictures taken in well light environments. Reserving the camera for well lit environments will help to produce more accurate pictures.
The Photon 4G uses the Gingerbread operating system (Android 2.3.4) and carries a blazing fast Tegra 2 processor. The processor is nearly as fast as the Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC's EVO 3D, which both have speeds clocked in excess of 1.2 GHz! The Photon 4G is Sprint's first global phone that includes WiMAX. WiMax provides speeds of up to 40 Mbit/s, while future updates may allow speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s!
The battery life of the Photon is excellent while the phone is using 3G data. When the phone is switched to 4G battery levels can start to diminish significantly faster. The battery included with the Photon is 1,700
mAH, which is one of the larger battery sizes currently available. The battery could last well throughout the
day if 4G isn't being used heavily, while using 4G may require charging the battery after only a few hours.
For a low price of $200 after contract, the Photon 4G is a powerhouse of a phone that includes an amazing display, excellent battery life and great specs. The Photon 4G phone is definitely a phone worth checking out!
