Tips On Communicating With Your Tech Guru

Computer acting weird? Getting slow in its old age? Not running that new game you just bought? A tech guru can be a huge help not only in dealing with serious issues such as software and hardware malfunction, but in improving performance and getting more from your computer, as well, optimizing it for peak performance.
Additionally, you may have a tech guru in another location. By way of a remote tech guru's remote, hands-on tech support, you don't have to worry about being guided through a process you barely understand, you can just sit there and watch them do their thing. Here are a few tips to keep in mind before making a call to a tech guru.
Reboot Your Computer
Oftentimes, you can fix everything with a simple reboot. Rebooting your computer can stop disruptive software in its tracks and basically just start your operating system over fresh. If you use a laptop and it freezes up, you may have to unplug it and remove the battery pack. Rebooting your computer can often save you time spent on the phone with tech support. If this doesn't work, then read on.
Clean Up Sensitive Data
When calling ...
... on a tech guru to fix up your computer, the truth is that reliable tech support companies do make a habit of hiring reliable, trustworthy people with real credentials, and they're not likely to try and steal any personal information. That said, most of us have one or two things on our computers that we'd prefer to keep private whether it's that novel we were writing, steamy photos from girlfriends or boyfriends, or just private, sensitive information like bank account numbers, passwords and so on. Anything that you absolutely don't want anyone else to see, put in a private folder beforehand, don't leave it open on the desktop, because tech support will be accessing your computer itself to get their job done.
Check the Help Files
If it's a piece of software or your operating system that's giving you trouble, the problem may actually be addressed in the help files that are included in the software package. It's always worth hitting the search bar and seeing if the problem has a simple fix before making the call.
Clarify Your Problem
You need to first clarify your problem to yourself. Calling tech support and saying "My computer's screwing up!" isn't going to give them much information to go on. In order to make sure that you know how to clarify the problem for tech support, make sure that you can clarify it to yourself, first. Is it running slowly? Does it freeze up? What were you doing before the problem took place? When was the first time the problem occurred? Make a mental note of the answers to all of these questions so that your tech guru can more immediately address the problem. They can figure it out themselves, but the more information you give them up front, the more quickly they'll have your computer working like new again.
Once you do get the problem straight and give one a call, the good news is that they should be able to get you through just about anything. Short of actually replacing and physically repairing the hardware, if the problem can be fixed, they should be able to fix it.
